We are hoping that the Covid-19 pandemic will not totally ruin the summer. Being quarantined means more time to blog. Let dive right into what we usually bring for our back country camping trips. When we say back country its camping on crown land and not in a camp ground. To get to many of the camp sites you either have to hike or canoe. We like to canoe and be right on the water. With that being said whatever we bring will have to fit into the canoe.
Our last couple camping trips we had a 15 foot canoe which really did carry a lot but with that much stuff comes that much weight. That was one problem we really felt had an impact on us. We had so much stuff it was extremely heavy.
We bring a large tote with us that carries a lot of our miscellaneous stuff. Some of the items we do not always use but they are good to have just in case. We could downsize on the tote but we seem to always find room for it.
- Coleman cooking stove
- Two sets of plates/utensils
- Two small chairs
- Pot & pan
- Soap & Sponge
- Cooking utensils
Most of the food we bring does not have to be refrigerated so it wont go bad right away. We bring a pretty large cooler as well so we can store things using that. We always bring beer with us as well which we try to keep as cold so there is not always room for anything else. We do try to plan out our meals to use the food that needs to be refrigerated first so it stays cold and fresh while there is still ice in our cooler.
- Pasta & Sauce
- Granola bars
Of course we need things that are just necessary to camp basically.
- A 2 or 4 person tent (depends where we go)
- Two lightweight sleeping pads
- Two sleeping bags
- One tarp
- Life straw
- Fishing rods
- Two full water bottles
There are always things you bring that you think you’ll need but don’t always use.
- Bug spray
- Hobo pie maker
- Portable phone charger
